Joe James, Psy.D.
Expertise:
Over the past 18 years I have had the great privilege of helping hundreds of adolescents and their families. I have spent countless hours meeting teenagers on the football field, in the gym, at the coffee shop, in the school lunchroom, at church, in my office and in hospitals; each one incredibly unique and astoundingly valuable. As a college student and young adult I served with Young Life as a Volunteer Leader and paid staff member. I also served as a youth pastor in a local church. As such, I made a habit of “going where the kids are” and “earning the right to be heard.” Consequently I have developed a keen sense of the culture in which teenagers live and have developed a unique set of skills that will often allow me to connect with adolescents in a meaningful way. As such, I am uniquely equipped to help families, schools, youth groups and others dealing with adolescent trauma, suicide, self-harm, depression, mood swings, alcohol and drug use, peer group pressures, difficulties at school, poor grades, defiance, and other high risk adolescent behaviors.
I also have a passion for adults of all ages who may be dealing with depression, anxiety, marital conflicts, personal identity problems, spiritual issues, men’s issues and more. Additionally, I enjoy working with couples in resolving conflicts, setting healthy boundaries, and dealing with long-standing problematic relational patterns.
